The slow progress in installing High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP) in Pune has raised concerns among vehicle owners. With only 1,000 plates being installed daily and 26 lakh vehicles still pending, meeting the April 30 deadline seems impossible. Vehicle owner Ramesh Gaikwad expressed frustration over the sluggish installation speed and called for government intervention to accelerate the process.

The challenges faced by vehicle owners include difficulties with online registration and the closure of some installation centers. As of March 11, only 34,356 vehicles had received the plates out of the 67,586 that had registered for installation. Authorities have increased the number of centers from 69 to 126, but experts believe that significant acceleration is needed to meet the deadline.

A Pune resident who bought a two-wheeler in May 2019 is now unable to register online for HSRP installation as it was the dealer’s responsibility and was ignored. This leaves him stranded without a solution.

To address the backlog and ensure timely installation of HSRP, authorities must take immediate action by increasing the number of centers, simplifying registration processes, and speeding up installations. Failure to do so may result in vehicle owners facing penalties for a delay beyond their control.
