As the holiday season continues, parties and celebrations are in full swing to ring in the New Year. And what’s a party without some alcohol, right? Well, the Maharashtra State Excise Department’s Pune Division is keeping a close eye on the consumption and distribution of alcohol to ensure everything stays above board.
Just a few days ago, on Christmas Day, the Excise Department made a major bust. They intercepted an illegal transport of liquor coming from Goa, where liquor is known to be cheaper. The smugglers, Ravindra Gharage and Ganesh Pawar, were caught with 13 boxes of liquor near the Navale Bridge area on the Mumbai-Bengaluru Highway. They were quickly detained and a case was filed against them. Following further investigations, 12 more boxes of liquor were discovered, bringing the total seizure to 25 boxes.
The total value of the seized liquor and vehicles used for transportation amounted to a whopping Rs 3.29 lakh. This successful operation was carried out by a dedicated team from the Saswad division of the Maharashtra State Excise Department. Deputy Commissioner Sagar Dhomkar, Superintendent Charansingh Rajput, and Deputy Superintendent Santosh Jagdale led the team, which also included several officers and constables.
It’s clear that the Maharashtra State Excise Department is not messing around when it comes to cracking down on illegal alcohol activities. So, if you’re planning on celebrating the New Year with a drink or two, make sure you’re doing it legally!
