As the debate over the proposed expansion of Pimpri-Chinchwad continues, local citizens are grappling with the challenges faced in the villages. From inadequate water supply to poor sewage systems, the growing population is putting a strain on essential services provided by the gram panchayats.

One of the major issues plaguing these villages is the unplanned construction, leading to narrow roads and regular traffic congestion. Waste mismanagement is also a significant concern, with residents often dumping waste along roadsides and in municipal areas, adding to the burden on the PCMC.

The exclusion of certain villages from the original proposal has also caused controversy. Villages like Alandi and Chakan were left out due to their municipal council status, while Dehu was omitted after being upgraded to a Nagar Panchayat. Other villages, including Chimbali, Kuruli, Moi, and Nighoje, were also removed from the expansion plan.

The proposed expansion would see Pimpri-Chinchwad’s boundaries increase from 181 square kilometers to 235.11 square kilometers, allowing for more integrated urban planning and addressing infrastructure challenges. However, despite continuous reminders to the state government, the proposal remains pending, leaving the residents of these villages in uncertainty about their future.

The need for the municipal corporation’s administrative framework to ensure systematic development in these villages is emphasized by officials, but until a decision is made on the expansion, the challenges faced by the local population will continue to persist.
