The Indian Army is all set to revamp its Army Para Node (APN) at Dighi, Pune with a whopping ₹56 crore project. This upgraded facility will cater to 200 para-athletes in various sports disciplines. The aim is to transform the APN into a Centre of Excellence in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and the Sports Authority of India.

The upgraded facility will boast of a synthetic track, strength and conditioning hall, swimming pool, and hostel facilities for the athletes. The centre will also host national-level competitions in para-archery, swimming, and athletics.

The recent achievements of para-athletes from the Indian Army, such as Hokato Sema’s bronze medal in shot put at the Paralympics in Paris, highlight the dedication and potential of these athletes. Lt Col Gaurav Dutta (Retd) expressed confidence in the future achievements of para-athletes with access to advanced training facilities.

The project will be implemented in phases, with the first phase tender expected to be floated soon. The support for para-athletes will also extend to healthcare assistance at the Military Hospital, Kirkee, and the Artificial Limb Centre.
