Pune, 21st December 2024: The ISW Symphony team from the India Society of Worcester (ISW) had a memorable performance at the NBA matchup between the Boston Celtics and Detroit Pistons at TD Garden on December 12, 2024. The Dhol Tasha Lezim team showcased Maharashtra’s cultural heritage and mesmerized thousands of spectators with their rhythmic beats.
ISW has been actively promoting Indian culture at Celtics games for years, with activities such as singing the American National Anthem and presenting Indian music and dance performances. Ragini Seth, a volunteer with ISW, mentioned that the collaboration began with a simple dance to ‘Jai Ho’ and has now evolved into various creative ways of showcasing Indian culture at Celtics games.
Sarita Deshpande, Chair of the ISW Symphony initiative, described the experience of performing at TD Garden as deeply emotional and a proud moment for the team. Aishwarya Mungarwadi, a new member of the Dhol team, expressed her excitement at playing at an NBA game and described the atmosphere as electrifying and unforgettable.
Akshay Rajhans, a veteran Dhol player, highlighted the cultural fusion of dance and music in their performance, leaving a lasting impression on the audience. Rajesh Khare, one of the organizers, emphasized the incredible energy in the arena and the joy of bringing the tradition of Dhol Tasha Lezim to an international audience.
