Pune/Ahilyanagar was abuzz with activity yesterday as the Tofkhana Police Station and Southern Command Military Intelligence unit teamed up to bust an illegal arms and fake license racket in the area. Nine individuals hailing from Jammu and Kashmir were nabbed in the operation, during which nine 12-bore rifles, 58 live cartridges, and numerous fake arms licenses were seized.

According to sources, the authorities had received a tip-off about individuals from Jammu and Kashmir working as security guards in Ahilyanagar and surrounding regions using fake documents. Raids were conducted at various locations, resulting in the arrest of nine suspects from Rajouri district in Jammu and Kashmir.

Reports suggest that the arms licenses produced by the accused were found to be counterfeit upon verification with the Rajouri District Collector’s Office. It was confirmed that the licenses had not been issued by the office, establishing them as fake.

Further investigations revealed that Sher Ahmed Ghulam Hasan, a resident of Kalakot, Rajouri, was the mastermind behind the racket. Hasan allegedly provided fake arms licenses and rifles to individuals looking for security guard jobs, charging a hefty sum of ₹50,000 for each license and weapon.

Among those arrested were individuals like Shabbir Mohammad Iqbal Hussain Gujjar, Mohammad Saleem alias Salem Gul Mohammad, and Sher Ahmed Ghulam Hasan himself. These suspects had been working as security guards in Pune, Ahilyanagar, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Shrigonda, and Sonai using the forged documents and illegally possessed firearms.

A case has been registered at the Tofkhana Police Station, with Police Inspector Anand Kokre leading the investigation. The authorities are now focused on tracing the origin of the fake licenses and identifying other individuals involved in the racket.

The successful operation was carried out under the guidance of the Army’s Southern Command Military Intelligence unit and key officials like Superintendent of Police Rakesh Ola and Additional Superintendent of Police Prashant Khaire. The team of officers involved in the operation included PI Anand Kokere, PSI Shailesh Patil, and several dedicated constables.

The crackdown on the illegal arms and fake license racket has brought relief to the residents of Pune/Ahilyanagar, ensuring that the area remains safe and secure from such criminal activities in the future.
