In a bid to protect shepherds from leopard attacks, the Maharashtra Forest Department has taken a proactive step by distributing safety tents and 100 solar lights to 40 shepherds in Ambegaon. The Junnar Forest Division is leading the charge in raising awareness and providing direct assistance to those at risk.
Deputy Forest Conservator Amol Satpute has been instrumental in implementing these safety measures, which aim to prevent conflicts between leopards and humans. The distribution of tents and solar lamps was carried out by Deputy Conservator Amol Satpute and Pradeep Walse Patil, Vice Chairman of Bhimashankar Sahakari Sakhar Karkhana.
To further enhance safety measures, a leopard rapid response team will be available 24/7 to handle emergencies, conduct rescue operations, and raise public awareness. Forest Range Officer Vikas Bhosale highlighted the importance of this team in preventing future conflicts and providing timely assistance.
During the distribution event, shepherds were educated on how to protect themselves and their families from leopard encounters. They were also instructed on the proper use of the safety tents and solar lights for self-defence and family safety.
Overall, these initiatives underscore the Maharashtra Forest Department’s commitment to safeguarding both wildlife and human lives in Ambegaon.
