Karve Nagar residents recently came together to demand better infrastructure in their area. The protest, organized by the Karvenagar United Society Forum, brought together residents from over 40 societies. They formed a human chain on the streets, holding placards that read, “No opposition to the new bridge, but complete the old road first.”
The main issue at hand is the incomplete road from Rajaram Bridge to Dudhane Lawns on the Shivane-Kharadi DP Road. Land acquisition hurdles have left the road unfinished, causing inconvenience to residents. Specific areas like Mahalaxmi Lawns and near Vedanta Mangal Karyalaya are facing unresolved land disputes, hindering the road from connecting to Mhatre Bridge and Ambedkar Chowk.
During the protest, political leaders, social activists, and former corporators showed their support. They handed over a memorandum of demands to Aniruddh Pawaskar, Chief of the PMC Road Department, who promised to expedite efforts to resolve the land acquisition issues and complete the road.
Residents are concerned that once the new bridge opens, traffic congestion in Karvenagar will worsen. The new bridge is expected to divert significant traffic from Sinhagad Road through Karvenagar’s DP Road, leading to congestion on the narrow internal roads. Residents are determined to ensure that infrastructure keeps pace with new developments and have called on authorities to prioritize their demands before introducing additional traffic flow into the area.
