Hey there, folks of Pune! Big news coming out of Kasba Peth – one lakh citizens are taking a bold stand by boycotting voting in the upcoming assembly elections. Why, you ask? Well, it all boils down to issues surrounding the old Wada and the repair work in the Kasba Assembly Constituency.
The Shaniwarwada Action Committee, led by Anupama Mujumdar, is spearheading this movement. They are concerned about the ban on construction and repair work within 100 meters of heritage structures, which has put a stop to the reconstruction of the old Wada and some buildings near Shaniwarwada and the Pataleshwar temples.
According to the committee, citizens are facing hardships due to what they see as an oppressive rule by the Central Government. They are accusing MPs, MLAs, and corporators of not taking their concerns seriously. And to add insult to injury, they claim that the police are shutting down hunger strikes aimed at addressing these issues.
Mujumdar emphasized that citizens are struggling as their demands are being ignored by the government and the questionable management of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). She highlighted the lack of essential facilities like fire brigade access and ambulance services for those living in old buildings in the area.
While it may seem like the construction near Shaniwarwada isn’t causing any harm, it’s still a big no-no according to the Archaeology Department. This has created a roadblock in rebuilding the old Wada, leaving residents without crucial services.
So, what’s next for the citizens of Kasba Peth? Only time will tell how this standoff will play out in the upcoming elections. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story!
