Pune, known for its beautiful monsoon season, is currently facing heavy rainfall, causing concerns about rising water levels in the region. In response to this, the authorities at Khadakwasla Dam have taken proactive measures to manage the situation effectively.

Increasing the water discharge rate from 27,203 cusecs to 35,574 cusecs into the Mutha River basin, the authorities aim to prevent any potential risks associated with excessive water levels. The Executive Engineer of the Khadakwasla Irrigation Department has indicated that the discharge rate may fluctuate based on future rainfall patterns.

Residents are advised to steer clear of certain areas that are prone to flooding, such as Sangam Bridge Settlement, Jayantrao Tilak Bridge, Holkar Bridge, Bhide Bridge, Garware College Khillare Vasti College Campus, and Shitala Devi Temple in Deccan for their safety.

A detailed overview of the water storage status of Pune’s major dams shows that Khadakwasla Dam is currently at 100% storage capacity, with the water level at 582.47 meters. Panshet Dam is at 76.31% storage capacity, Warasgaon Dam at 62.74%, and Temghar Dam at 57.27%.

The total water storage for all four dams is currently at 20.27 TMC, which is an increase from last year’s total storage of 17.84 TMC. Continuous monitoring and adjustments will be made to ensure the safety of residents and manage the water levels effectively during this monsoon season in Pune.
