The countdown to the 40-day Balidan Mas in honor of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj has officially begun in Kondhawe-Dhawade near Khadakwasla. This annual event, starting tomorrow and leading up to Sambhaji Maharaj’s death anniversary on 29th March, aims to inspire the youth and combat despair and addiction.

Participants will gather daily at the Shri Kondhveshwar Temple at 7:15 AM to perform rituals and worship Sambhaji Maharaj’s image. Local groups and residents from nearby areas are expected to join in the observance.

During the Balidan Mas, individuals will refrain from indulging in their favorite foods, sweets, and luxuries as a sign of respect and sacrifice to honor Sambhaji Maharaj’s 40 days of torment before his execution by Aurangzeb.

Organizer Sunit Limbore has encouraged students, youth, and women to actively participate in the daily ceremonies and embrace the spirit of sacrifice. Historian Ashok Sarpatil believes that this period offers a unique opportunity for young people to cope with stress, job uncertainties, and addiction by learning about Sambhaji Maharaj’s courageous story.

Dr. Nandkishore Mate, another historian, emphasized the importance of the Balidan Mas in allowing devotees to demonstrate their allegiance to the Chhatrapati and embody the valor of the Mavlas (soldiers). This annual tradition serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by Sambhaji Maharaj and inspires individuals to reflect on their own challenges and triumphs.
