Hey Pune peeps, heads up! If you were planning on stocking up on alcohol during the upcoming Ganpati Festival, you might want to rethink your plans. Liquor sale has been officially banned in certain areas of the city and district from September 7 to September 17.

District Collector Dr Suhas Diwase issued an order on Friday, September 6, stating that the ban will be in effect in the heart of the city, including areas within the limits of Faraskhana, Vishrambaug and Khadak Police Stations. The ban will last until the immersion procession on September 18.

Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar proposed the ban to the District Collector to ensure law and order during the 10-day festival. As a result, liquor shops within the specified police station jurisdictions will be closed during the festival period.

So, if you were thinking of raising a toast to Lord Ganesha during the festivities, you might need to find alternative ways to celebrate. Stay safe and enjoy the festival responsibly, Pune!
