Lotte Wellfood Co., a South Korean multinational, is set to make its mark in the Indian snack market with the launch of its popular chocolate-coated biscuit stick, ‘Pepero.’ The company’s CEO, Paul Yi, announced that ‘Pepero’ will hit Indian shelves in July 2025, marking the first time the snack will be produced outside of South Korea, with manufacturing taking place at the Haryana plant.

Known as Korea’s number one branded confectionery snack, ‘Pepero’ aims to replicate its success in India, riding on the wave of increasing popularity for K-food and K-pop in the country. Lotte is looking to diversify its product portfolio beyond ice cream and choco pie, with a focus on exploring new categories such as snacks in the Indian market.

With a Rs 500 crore investment in its Pune plant for Havmor ice cream production, Lotte already has a strong presence in India. The facility has an annual production capacity of 50 million litres, with room for expansion up to 100 million litres to meet the growing demand for ice cream in the country.

Looking ahead, Lotte Wellfood plans to invest an additional $300 million over the next 3-5 years in capacity and supply chain expansion to support its entry into the snacks market and enhance production and distribution capabilities in India. The company is also eyeing export opportunities to regions like the Middle East and Africa from its Indian plant while maintaining a strong focus on expanding its footprint in the Indian market.

Overall, Lotte Wellfood’s strategic foray into the Indian snack market, combined with its significant investments and focus on innovation, positions the company well to cater to the rising demand for international food products in India.
