With only 0.75% of older vehicles in Pune fitted with High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP), the city is facing a significant backlog in installations. Approximately 2.5 lakh vehicle owners have registered for HSRP plates, but delays from vendor companies have caused installation delays.

HSRP plates offer a range of benefits, including enhanced security by helping track stolen vehicles, digital vehicle records for better traffic monitoring, and prevention of fake plates to reduce misuse in crimes and accidents.

Despite the Transport Department making HSRP plates mandatory for older vehicles in 2019, many owners have yet to comply. Authorities are urging vehicle owners to get HSRP plates installed promptly to avoid penalties, including fines and suspension of vehicle registration.

To get HSRP plates installed, vehicle owners can visit the official registration website, enter their vehicle details, select an authorized installation center nearby, and schedule an appointment for installation.

The slow adoption rate emphasizes the need for stronger enforcement and awareness campaigns to ensure compliance with HSRP regulations in Pune.
