If you’re a resident of Sahakarnagar or Bibvewadi in Pune, you might soon have a new Metro station to make your daily commute easier. Minister of State for Urban Development and Transport, Madhuri Misal, recently proposed adding a station along the Swargate-Katraj underground route to improve connectivity for locals.
During a review meeting with Metro officials, Misal suggested conducting a feasibility study to explore the possibility of constructing a station in Sahakarnagar. This new station would benefit the residents of Sahakarnagar-Bibvewadi, adding to the three stations already planned along the route.
The Swargate-Katraj Metro corridor has already received approvals from both the state and central governments. Maha Metro, the implementing agency, is gearing up to start tunnel construction in the coming months. The addition of two more stations, including one in Sahakarnagar, aims to enhance accessibility for the people of Pune.
In addition to the Swargate-Katraj route, the state government is also waiting for approval on two other key Metro projects — the Vanaz-Chandni Chowk and Ramwadi-Wagholi corridors. Misal has been working on strengthening public transport in Pune through transport mapping surveys and improving coordination between Metro, PMPML, and autorickshaw services.
Moreover, the Swargate Metro station will directly connect to the MSRTC bus terminus, making it convenient for commuters to switch between bus and Metro services seamlessly. With these developments in place, the future of public transport in Pune looks promising.
