Hey Pune peeps, exciting news for all you metro commuters! The Balaji Nagar Station on the Swargate to Katraj Metro Line is all set to be located right in front of Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University. But hold up, some folks were worried about the distance between stations. Well, fear not, because the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha Metro) has got it all figured out.

So, here’s the scoop – the longest stretch on this line will be between Shree Chhatrapati Shivaji Market Yard (Market Yard) and Padmavati, measuring a cool 2.11 kilometres. But don’t sweat it, the distance between the other three stations will be around 1 to 1.25 kilometres. And guess what? The fare structure will be adjusted to match these distances. How convenient!

Originally, the detailed project report (DPR) for the 5.65 km-long metro line proposed three stations – Market Yard, Padmavati, and Katraj. But guess what? After some public pressure, the Balaji Nagar Metro Station was added to the mix. And let me tell you, there were some heated discussions about how this new station would affect the distance between Padmavati and Katraj.

But fear not, Maha Metro has confirmed that the Balaji Nagar station will be right in front of Bharati Vidyapeeth. And here are the distances between the stations for your reference: Swargate to Market Yard (1.31 km), Market Yard to Padmavati (2.11 km), Padmavati to Bharati Vidyapeeth (1.23 km), and Bharati Vidyapeeth to Katraj (1 km). And of course, the fares will be adjusted accordingly.

Now, let’s talk money. The total cost of this underground metro line is estimated to be a whopping Rs 2,954 crore, with the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) chipping in 15% (Rs 485 crore). Not only that, but PMC will also be providing the land for the project, valued at Rs 248 crore. A proposal for the cost of the station at Bharati Vidyapeeth is in the works and will soon be sent to the Maharashtra State Government for approval.

Oh, and did I mention that the Swargate-Katraj route will be entirely underground, with excavation going a cool 100 feet below the surface? Yep, you heard that right. According to Hemant Sonawane, the Executive Director of Maha Metro, the new station at Bharati Vidyapeeth may have changed the distances a bit, but it’s all for the greater good. So, get ready for a smoother and more convenient metro ride in the near future, Pune!
