Hey Pune peeps! Big news coming your way about the Pune Metro. So, the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha Metro) has recently introduced a pay-and-park system at the Pune District Court Metro Station. But wait, there’s a twist! The contractors appointed for this job have been caught overcharging passengers. Yep, you read that right. The agreed fee was Rs 15 for two hours, but these sneaky contractors were charging Rs 30 instead. Double the amount, can you believe it?

But don’t worry, justice has been served. A complaint was filed with the Maha Metro administration, and the contractor’s contract was swiftly canceled. However, the parking rates set by Maha Metro are still pretty high, making it tough for the average Joe to afford. This could potentially lead to more people opting for private vehicles over the Pune Metro, causing even more traffic congestion in the city.

On a brighter note, our very own PM Narendra Modi inaugurated a new underground route from the District Court Metro Station to Swargate Metro Station just the other day. This new route allows for direct travel from Swargate to Pimpri Chinchwad via the Metro, which is super convenient. The District Court Metro Station is a major interchange station, so having a parking lot there is a big deal.

The Maha Metro Administration had initially set a parking rate of Rs 15 for two hours in their contract with the contractors. But from day one, these contractors were playing dirty and charging Rs 15 for just one hour instead. This led to some poor folks shelling out more money for parking than for their actual Metro ride. Not cool, right?

Thankfully, Hemant Sonawane, the Executive Director of Administration and Public Relations at Maha Metro, took swift action and canceled the contract as soon as the overcharging complaint came in. Kudos to him for keeping things in check!

Now, here’s the kicker – the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has parking lots all over the city with much cheaper rates of Rs 3 per hour for two-wheelers and Rs 5 per hour for four-wheelers. So, it’s no surprise that citizens are now demanding a reduction in Maha Metro’s parking fees. Can’t blame them, can you?

That’s all the Metro gossip for now, folks. Stay tuned for more updates on what’s happening in our beloved Pune city!
