- Maharashtra Government Allocates ₹1 Crore for Pune Metro Phase 2 Expansion Reports
In a move to bolster the development of Pune Metro’s Phase 2 expansion, the Maharashtra government has allocated a substantial sum of ₹1 crore for the preparation of essential reports. These reports, including the Alternative Analysis Report (AAR) and Detailed Project Report (DPR), will play a crucial role in guiding the expansion of the metro network in Pune.
- Maha-Metro Tasked with Preparing AAR and DPR
The responsibility for preparing the AAR and DPR has been entrusted to Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha-Metro). These reports will outline the expansion plans for seven new metro line extensions, covering a total distance of approximately 82.5 kilometers as part of Phase 2.
- Central and State Governments Collaborate on Funding
Both the central and state governments are collaborating on the funding for the Phase 2 expansion project. The Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has agreed to finance 50% of the total cost under the Urban Transport Planning and Capacity Building Scheme. The state government has already disbursed ₹39.72 lakh as a subsidy grant to Maha-Metro from the approved ₹1 crore.
- Proposed Metro Extensions to Improve Connectivity
The proposed metro extensions under Phase 2 aim to enhance urban mobility and alleviate congestion in Pune. The new routes include Khadakwasla to Kharadi via Swargate and Hadapsar, Paudphata to Manikbaug via Warje, Ramwadi to Wagholi, and Vanaz to Chandni Chowk.
- Progress of Pune Metro Phase 1
Pune Metro’s Phase 1, consisting of the Purple and Aqua lines, spans a total distance of 33.2 km with 30 stations. The final section of Phase 1 became operational on November 29, 2024, marking a significant milestone in Pune’s public transport infrastructure. With the successful completion of Phase 1, the focus has now shifted towards the expansion of Phase 2 to further enhance Pune’s transportation network.
