The Maharashtra Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, is making moves to improve transportation in Pune with the proposal of a twin tunnel underground corridor connecting Yerawada to Katraj. During a recent meeting in Mumbai, Fadnavis directed the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority to prepare a proposal for this project, along with discussing development plans for other regions like Nashik, Nagpur, and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar.

Some key points from the meeting include the emphasis on using new technology for the twin tunnel project, allocating funds for various infrastructure projects such as road networks to the proposed new Purandar Airport, cement roads in Ranjangaon and Hinjawadi areas, and road networks in Urban Growth Centres.

Fadnavis stressed the need for wider roads in new city developments, suggesting a minimum width of 18 metres and considering future population growth when planning infrastructure. He also addressed specific needs for each region, such as improving connectivity to Purandar Airport in Pune, reserving land for wastewater treatment projects in Nashik, exploring feasibility for proposed office and residential complexes in Nagpur, and focusing on nearby industrial areas and tourist spots in development plans for Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar.

The meeting, attended by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, other ministers, and officials from various departments and development authorities, showcases the government’s commitment to improving infrastructure and transportation in Maharashtra.
