The Maharashtra State Excise Department is cracking down on pubs and hotels selling alcohol to minors by mandating the installation of CCTV cameras in all establishments where liquor is sold. This initiative comes in response to recent incidents, including a tragic accident in Kalyani Nagar that resulted in the deaths of two young IT Engineers due to minors being served alcohol.
To ensure comprehensive monitoring, at least two CCTV cameras must be installed in areas where liquor is served, with footage stored for at least one month. Inspectors and Superintendents will have access to live feeds on their mobile devices, and the cameras must have a resolution of at least two megapixels.
Furthermore, pubs and bars are required to install software with AI capabilities to effectively analyze image data. These measures aim to prevent further tragedies and hold operators accountable for illegal alcohol sales to minors.
