In a move to boost educational resources, the Maharashtra state education department is all set to introduce 120 books written by government school teachers into 65,000 school libraries across the state. This initiative aims to enhance the academic experience for students from Standard I to XII by incorporating diverse literature penned by educators.

The State Council of Education Research and Training (SCERT) has formed a panel to select the most impactful and relevant literature from various genres such as sports, poetry, environment, and science. These books are written in multiple languages, including English, Marathi, Hindi, and Urdu. The panel plays a crucial role in ensuring that the chosen works meet high standards of quality and educational value.

Initially launched with Marathi and Urdu literature, the initiative has received positive feedback and is now being expanded to include Hindi and English works. This broader inclusion reflects a commitment to providing students with a more varied reading experience.

Commissioner of Education Suraj Mandhare highlighted, “This is part of our broader strategy for quality enhancement in schools. While previous efforts focused on improving infrastructure, we are now focusing on the quality of education itself. Enhancing teacher engagement and encouraging creative contributions are crucial for achieving better educational outcomes.”

Teachers like Suhas Kendale, a zilla parishad teacher from Pune district, have made significant contributions to this initiative. Kendale mentioned that educators have been creating literature in the form of short stories, booklets, and journals. He stated, “Some poems written by teachers are already being shared and read in classrooms. The state government is now providing these talented individuals with a larger platform to showcase their work and receive well-deserved recognition.”
