Hey there, folks of Pune! The government has just dropped a bombshell on private hospitals in the state by changing the fees for biomedical waste management and handling. Instead of charging hospitals based on their capital investment, they will now have to pay according to the number of beds they have.

This new fee structure will be in place for a period of three years and hospitals will need to deposit the fees with the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB). The Union Ministry of Environment, Forest, And Climate Change has been imposing this fee on private hospitals since 2016, much to the dismay of the hospitals who were not happy about paying based on their capital investment.

The Pune branch of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) and the Pune branch of the Hospital Board of India had been pushing for this change and finally, their demands have been heard. Dr Avinash Dhakne, Member Secretary of the MPCB, has issued an order to levy charges on the basis of hospital beds.

So, what are the new charges for biomedical waste management? Here’s a breakdown for you:
– Zero hospital beds: Rs 1,000
– 1 to 10 beds: Rs 2,000
– 11 to 50 beds: Rs 5,000
– 51 to 100 beds: Rs 15,000
– 101 to 300 beds: Rs 50,000
– 301 to 500 beds: Rs One lakh
– 501 to 1,000 beds: Rs Two lakhs
– More than 1,000 hospital beds: Rs Five lakhs
