The Maharashtra Government has recently submitted all necessary documents and information to the Supreme Court regarding OBC reservations in the state. This move indicates that a decision on this issue could be coming soon, as mentioned by Revenue Minister and BJP State President Chandrashekar Bawankule.
During a press conference after a BJP meeting in Pune, Bawankule mentioned that the government is fully prepared to conduct local body elections promptly if instructed by the Supreme Court. He even hinted at the possibility of these elections happening as soon as April.
Bawankule seemed confident about the ruling alliance’s chances in the upcoming elections, pointing to their success in the state assembly elections where they secured 237 seats. He expressed optimism about winning Municipal Corporation, Zilla Parishad, and Panchayat Samiti elections as well.
In response to concerns about the discontinuation of government schemes, Bawankule reassured the public that no programs would be terminated. He emphasized the government’s commitment to introducing new initiatives while maintaining existing ones with separate budget allocations for each.
The BJP in Maharashtra is currently conducting a membership drive with a goal of reaching 1.5 crore members and 3 lakh active members in the state. Bawankule reported that they have already registered 1.16 crore members and are working towards achieving the remaining target by the end of February.
When asked about the controversy surrounding Food and Civil Supplies Minister Dhananjay Munde and calls for his resignation, Bawankule chose not to comment. He stated that this matter is internal to Munde, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, and the Nationalist Congress Party.
