Hey there, folks! If you’re a fan of all things livestock-related, you’re in for a treat. The 21st Livestock Census in Maharashtra kicked off on Monday, and it’s going high-tech this time around. Yep, you heard that right – they’re using a fancy mobile app to gather all the important data.
Now, why is this census such a big deal, you ask? Well, for starters, Maharashtra is no slouch when it comes to livestock. In fact, it’s ranked seventh in the whole country and fifth in poultry production. That’s nothing to sneeze at!
This census, which happens every five years, is all about collecting detailed info on livestock to help with future planning and policies. After all, products like milk, eggs, and meat are pretty important for both nutrition and making some extra cash.
Back in 2019, during the 20th Livestock Census, they started breaking down the data by type of livestock and even looked at rural versus urban areas. And guess what? Maharashtra had a whopping 33,380,000 livestock back then – a 1.83% increase from previous counts.
This time around, officials are going all out, collecting data on 16 types of livestock and poultry. They’re looking at everything from breed to age to gender, and they’re not leaving any stone unturned. The census will run for four months, from November 2024 to February 2025, covering households, families, and even goshals (cattle sheds).
So, if you’re a livestock enthusiast or just curious about what goes on in the world of cows and chickens, keep an eye out for updates on this year’s Livestock Census in Maharashtra. It’s bound to be a wild ride!
