The Flying Squad of the Maharashtra State Excise Department’s Pune Division has been busy cracking down on illegal liquor activities during the recent Liquor Ban Week. From 2nd to 6th October, the squad conducted raids on dhabas and restaurants involved in the illegal sale of alcohol, as well as the production and transportation of illegal liquor.
A total of 22 cases were registered and 14 individuals were charged, with liquor and related items worth Rs 17.27 lakhs seized. The raids resulted in the confiscation of 14,400 litres of alcohol, including 2,115 litres of hand-kiln country-made liquor. In addition, foreign liquor, beer, and six vehicles used for transportation were also seized.
The operation was carried out by a team of dedicated Excise Sub Inspectors and Constables, led by Excise Inspector Narendra Thorat. Thorat has stated that similar operations will continue in the future, and he encourages the public to report any illegal liquor activities to the authorities.
