The Maharashtra State Infrastructure Development Corporation (MSIDC) is making moves to further enhance the infrastructure in the Pune region by inviting bids for the construction of a six-lane elevated highway between Pune and Shirur. This project, valued at ₹5,993 crore, is part of a larger effort to improve the connectivity along the Pune-Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar national highway.

Here are some key details about this significant project:

1. Scope and Design: The project will cover a 53.40 km stretch and will include a double flyover on the Pune to Shirur section. Additionally, a bypass road will connect Shirur to Nagar, ensuring a seamless link to the Samruddhi Highway.

2. Infrastructure Development: Originally planned as a 25 km continuous flyover, the design has been altered to include smaller flyovers to address pothole-prone areas.

3. Cost and Funding: The project will not rely on government funds but will instead utilize the public-private partnership (PPP) model to optimize resources.

After being canceled due to administrative adjustments, the project has been reintroduced under the MSIDC. The Maharashtra state cabinet approved the project in September 2024, highlighting its significance in improving regional connectivity.

The execution plan includes a tendering process to attract contractors for the project’s development, operation, and maintenance. The project is expected to be completed within three years of issuing the work order, with a focus on minimizing land acquisition by utilizing existing infrastructure.

The Pune-Shirur elevated road project aims to enhance connectivity, boost the economy, and modernize infrastructure in the region. With a revised cost of ₹5,993 crore and a collaborative effort between various departments, this project is set to address critical transportation challenges while promoting economic growth in Maharashtra.
