Hey there, bookworms of Maharashtra! Get ready to dive back into the world of books with the upcoming ‘Reading Resolution Maharashtra’ initiative launched by the state government. From January 1 to 15, students in higher education institutions across the state will be encouraged to pick up a book outside of their academic syllabus and get reading.
The initiative aims to reignite students’ passion for reading with activities like group reading, reading dialogues, workshops to enhance reading skills, book reviews, and narration competitions. To participate, students must read a book, write a 500-word review, or deliver a five-minute presentation on it. The best reviews will be featured in college publications, and winners will receive prizes on January 26.
To ensure the success of the initiative, committees at various levels have been formed, and colleges are expected to curate lists of recommended books for students. Public libraries are encouraged to organize book exhibitions during the “Reading Fortnight,” and students are urged to register as library members.
Dr. Shailendra Devlankar, Director of Higher Education, shared that over 6,000 colleges, 83 universities, and 12,500 libraries have already signed up for the initiative. Students from urban and rural areas are invited to participate, with the top three students from each division receiving guidance from prominent figures in education.
This initiative differs from the annual Reading Inspiration Day, as it focuses specifically on students and aims to set a new standard for reading initiatives in the state. So, get those reading glasses on and start flipping those pages – it’s time to make reading a resolution in Maharashtra!
