Parents in Maharashtra are anxiously awaiting the release of the fifth waiting list for RTE admissions as nearly 26,870 reserved seats in private schools remain unfilled. The RTE Act mandates that 25% of seats in private schools are reserved for children from economically weaker and disadvantaged sections, but this year’s admission process has left many families uncertain about their children’s educational future.
The centralized online admission process across 9,217 schools in Maharashtra offered a total of 105,238 seats, but with 242,516 applications received, there is still a significant number of vacancies. Districts like Nagpur, Nashik, Pune, Thane, and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar show notable shortfalls in admissions, highlighting the need for urgent action to address the issue.
Parents are calling for the prompt release of the fifth waiting list, improved communication and updates on available seats, and focused attention on high-demand districts to ensure that all eligible children can secure admissions. The Primary Education Department must work towards facilitating a smoother and more transparent process to fulfill the objectives of the RTE Act and provide quality education to those in need.
