Hey there, folks! It’s time for some breaking news from Pune and Kolhapur. The Crime Branch of the Pune Rural Police Force has finally nabbed the main accused in the kidnapping and murder case of government contractor and builder Vitthal Polekar. The accused, known as Yogesh alias Babu Kisan Bhame, had been on the run for a good two months after the horrific incident at the foothills of Sinhagad Fort in Pune district.
Vitthal Sakharam Polekar, a 70-year-old resident of Donje village, was targeted by Bhame, a known criminal with a history of serious offenses. Bhame demanded a whopping ransom of Rs 2 crore from Polekar before kidnapping him along with two accomplices on 14th November 2024. Tragically, Polekar was fatally stabbed and his body was dumped in the catchment area of Khadakwasla Dam.
Bhame’s partners-in-crime, Shubham Popat Sonawane and Milind Devidas Thorat, had already been caught in connection with the case earlier. But it was Bhame who had managed to evade the authorities until now.
The Pune Rural Superintendent of Police, Pankaj Deshmukh, broke the news of Bhame’s arrest at a press conference today. According to him, the police received crucial information about Bhame’s whereabouts in Kolhapur, leading to his capture. The investigation is now focusing on unraveling the motive behind Polekar’s murder, Bhame’s hideout during his time as a fugitive, and anyone who may have assisted him.
Additional Superintendent of Police Ramesh Chopde made it clear that anyone who sheltered or aided Bhame during his time on the run would also face charges in the case. This operation was carried out under the leadership of top officers like Dr. Pankaj Deshmukh, Ramesh Chopade, and Sunil Kumar Pujari, with a dedicated team of police officers and constables working tirelessly to bring justice to Polekar’s family.
So, stay tuned for more updates on this developing story as the investigation unfolds. Let’s hope that justice is swiftly served for Vitthal Polekar and his loved ones.
