In a shocking incident that unfolded in Tondali Vareli village in Chiplun tehsil, a 55-year-old man bravely fought off a leopard to protect his beloved pet dog. The man, identified as Ashish Mahajan, a retired psychologist from Pune, heard his dog barking frantically and rushed outside to find the wild animal ready to attack.

With no time to spare, Mahajan used a sharp tool thrown to him by his wife to defend himself against the leopard’s repeated lunges. The intense struggle lasted for nearly 15 minutes, leaving both Mahajan and the leopard with severe injuries.

Fortunately, Mahajan was quickly taken to a nearby hospital in Derwan village, where doctors have confirmed his stable condition. However, the leopard couldn’t survive its injuries and succumbed to them.

Tushar Wagh, a friend of Mahajan, described the terrifying ordeal and how Mahajan’s quick thinking and bravery saved both himself and his pet. Forest officials later arrived at the scene and identified the leopard as a two-year-old female, noting the injuries sustained to its chest, legs, and neck.

This dramatic encounter serves as a reminder of the unpredictable wildlife-human interactions that can occur, highlighting the importance of being vigilant and prepared in such situations. The bravery displayed by Mahajan in protecting his pet dog is truly commendable and showcases the strong bond between humans and their animal companions.
