The city of Pune was left reeling after a horrific rape incident took place at Swargate ST depot. The accused, identified as Dattatray Gade, is a known criminal with a history of offenses. The police have launched a manhunt to track him down, with his brother also being taken into custody for questioning.
Gade, who has a record of theft, chain snatching, and assault cases, was spotted around the depot before committing the crime. The incident occurred inside a bus at the depot, where he assaulted a 26-year-old woman who had come to catch a bus to Phaltan.
Multiple sections, including rape under the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita, have been invoked in the case. Despite CCTV footage helping identify Gade, he managed to escape when police raided his residence in Shirur. The public has been urged to report any information about his whereabouts.
The manhunt for Gade has intensified, with various police teams, including the Crime Branch, actively searching for him. Concerns have been raised about potential external support aiding his escape. DCP (Zone 2) Smartana Patil stated that efforts are ongoing to locate and apprehend the accused.
