The road seems to be getting smoother for the BJP in the Parvati segment in the State poll, with two rebels from the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) possibly splitting votes and making it tough for the MVA candidate. But the Maratha community is not backing down, with the slogan ‘Ek Maratha, Lakh Maratha’ gaining momentum at the grassroots level.
The Parvati seat, previously reserved, was de-reserved in 2009, allowing BJP-Shiv Sena candidate Madhuri Misal to win here multiple times. The future of the constituency will be determined by the delimitation exercise in 2029.
Despite being the majority in the constituency, the Maratha community has not had representation for 35 years. This has sparked unity among community members, especially with the recent Maratha quota agitation led by Manoj Jarange Patil targeting DyCM Devendra Fadnavis.
With NCP (SP) rebel Sachin Taware and NCP (SP) candidate Ashwini Kadam both from Maratha families, the community’s support is up for grabs. Taware initially entered the race as an independent but later withdrew in support of Kadam.
Pro-Maratha quota leaders are mobilizing community members for the State poll, with an eye on the upcoming civic elections. It seems that Maratha workers from all parties are ready to join forces in the near future.
