The recent Marathi Indie Music Awards (MIMA) ceremony in Pune saw a gathering of prominent figures in the Marathi music industry. Singer Vaishali Samant advocated for financial aid for independent Marathi non-filmy music, comparing it to the support given to Marathi films. Eminent composer Ashok Patki received the ‘Sangeet Ratna’ Lifetime Achievement Award, with Prasad Lad, a Member of Legislative Council, State Government, presenting the award.
During the event, Samant emphasized the importance of government support for non-film music, stating that it would help promote Marathi music on a global scale. Patki, reflecting on his iconic song ‘Radha Hi Bawari’, shared an anecdote about its creation, highlighting the role of collaboration between composers and lyricists like Swapnil Bandodkar.
The event also recognized the contributions of Avadhoot Gupte, Vaishali Samant, and Swapnil Bandodkar, awarding them the ‘Marathi Indie Music Icon’ title. Classical vocalists Pt. Raghunandan Panshikar, Anand Bhate, and Pt. Sanjeev Abhyankar were also honored for their excellence in the field.
Furthermore, the event celebrated iconic Marathi indie songs and shows, with ‘Gaarva’ and ‘Aayushyavar Bolu Kahi’ being recognized for their contributions to the genre. The ceremony marked a significant step in acknowledging and supporting independent music in the Marathi industry, paving the way for future generations of musicians and composers.
