Traffic congestion in Wagholi was brought to a halt on Wednesday as authorities from various departments joined forces to demolish encroachments obstructing traffic flow. In a six-hour-long operation, about 40,000 square feet of sheds, fences, billboards, and structures were removed from the road, providing relief to commuters in the area.

Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar and Shirur constituency MLA Dnyaneshwar Katke led a meeting with departmental officers on Tuesday to address the traffic congestion issue. Following the meeting, a joint action was initiated, starting from Kesnand Phata and continuing throughout the day.

The demolition drive, which began at 1 p.m. and concluded at 7 p.m., was carried out peacefully with no disruptions. A large police force was deployed to ensure the safety of the operation, with traffic control teams managing the flow of vehicles during the action.

Citizens welcomed the sudden action taken on Wednesday, with some vendors voluntarily removing encroachments prior to the operation. Shirur MLA Dnyaneshwar Katke emphasized the importance of not obstructing traffic with encroachments and called for prompt action by the Municipal Corporation in case of any future violations.

The authorities announced that the next phase of action would commence at 8 a.m. on Thursday, involving the participation of around 50 workers, employees, and officers from various departments. The collaborative effort aims to improve traffic conditions in Wagholi and ensure the smooth flow of vehicles in the area.
