The Code of Conduct for the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly elections has officially kicked off in Pune, and District Collector Dr Suhas Diwase is taking serious measures to ensure a peaceful and orderly election process. In a recent order, Dr Diwase has banned the use of arms, ammunition, and weapons in the Pune District to protect human life, public safety, property, and peace.

Under the powers granted by the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) of 2023 and the Arms Act of 1959, the carrying of licensed firearms, weapons, and ammunition is strictly prohibited for all individuals in the Pune District until midnight on 25th November 2024. However, this ban does not apply to officers, employees involved in election arrangements, and security personnel responsible for protecting banks and public property.

Dr Diwase has emphasized that banks, institutions, and officials must ensure that weapons are not misused during this sensitive period. Any individual found violating this directive will face legal action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita of 2023.

This order aims to maintain peace and security during the upcoming elections in Pune and prevent any potential violence or disturbances. Stay tuned for more updates on the election proceedings in the Pune District.
