Get ready, Pune! The monsoon is making a comeback starting June 22 after a brief break, and heavy showers are on the way. The India Meteorological Department is predicting above-normal rainfall for the city throughout June.

According to experts at IMD Pune, we can expect a noticeable increase in rainfall from June 23 onwards, with significant showers hitting Pune by June 25. The ghat areas are also expected to receive substantial rainfall during this time.

So far, Maharashtra has been experiencing normal-category rainfall, with some areas even surpassing expectations. Marathwada and Central Maharashtra have seen good rainfall, while Konkan and Vidarbha are facing some deficiencies.

The recent pre-monsoon and early monsoon showers have brought relief to Central Maharashtra and Marathwada, with Marathwada seeing a 63% surplus in rainfall compared to normal levels. Pune district in Central Maharashtra reported rainfall 31% above normal.

The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Pune city from June 19 to 22, warning of light to moderate rainfall within the city and moderate showers in isolated ghat areas. Climate experts have confirmed the dissipation of El Nino, which had caused severe heat earlier in the year, but are now looking out for potential La Nina conditions in the Pacific Ocean by late July or early August.

As Pune braces for increased rainfall, residents and authorities are preparing for the weather changes and their impact on the region. With the promise of replenished water reservoirs and agricultural lands, Pune is looking forward to a change in weather patterns for the better.
