The recent report by Pune Pulse shed light on the deplorable state of Borade Nagar, and MPCB officials have exposed shocking violations during their inspection. Key findings include non-functional effluent treatment plants, absence of a duty officer, direct discharge of waste into drainage lines, improper disposal of slaughtered animals, and broken water pipelines causing wastewater overflow.

Authorities were taken aback by the lack of information about critical equipment required to operate the slaughterhouse, particularly the ETP. MPCB’s Sub-Regional Officer, Kartikey Langote, expressed deep concern over the situation and vowed to take strict action to safeguard public health.

Residents of Borade Nagar have been grappling with contaminated water issues due to the slaughterhouse, with blood-contaminated water seeping into their homes. Despite numerous complaints, a permanent solution is yet to be implemented. MNS activist Rohan Gaikwad took matters into his own hands by arranging for a water tanker and disinfectants to address immediate health hazards.

PMC health officer Nina Borade has promised to inspect the site and implement necessary measures, while MPCB’s Kartikey Langhote has assured further action to prevent future violations. However, residents are demanding a permanent solution to the ongoing problem, urging authorities to impose stricter regulations on slaughterhouses to mitigate health and environmental risks.
