Hey there, Pune peeps! Looks like Mercedes Benz India Pvt. Ltd. is in hot water with the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB). The MPCB recently paid them a visit and found that they were not exactly playing by the pollution control rules. Oops!

According to the show-cause notice issued on 19th September 2024, Mercedes Benz India was supposed to be following some strict pollution control measures as per their Consent to Operate. But guess what? They were caught slacking off during inspections on 23rd August and 4th September 2024.

So, what did the MPCB find? Well, it seems like Mercedes Benz India was dropping the ball on a few things:
1. Their Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) wasn’t running at full capacity.
2. Their pH and TDS meters were giving wonky readings.
3. They missed the deadline to install some key equipment for treating waste.
4. The flow meter in their reverse osmosis (RO) unit wasn’t working.
5. Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) were getting out near the paint booth.
6. Their incinerator wasn’t up to snuff for burning paint booth particles.
7. No sludge thickener for proper disposal.
8. They didn’t follow the MPCB’s rules on retrofitting emission control devices for diesel engines.
9. Overall, their Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) and Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) were not being properly maintained.

Yikes, Mercedes Benz India, get it together! MPCB is not happy with the pollution you’re spewing into the environment. J.S. Salunkhe, the Regional Officer of MPCB, has given them 15 days to explain themselves or face legal action. Let’s hope they clean up their act before things get messy!
