Hey there, eco-conscious folks! It looks like the Mula River is in hot water – or should we say, black water. Yep, you heard that right. Apparently, untreated wastewater is being dumped into the river, which is a big no-no when it comes to environmental safety.
The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) recently found that samples collected from the Common Sewage Treatment Plant (CSTP) were as black as the night sky, indicating some serious pollution control violations. And to make matters worse, the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) didn’t even bother to submit a bank guarantee of ₹35 lakh, which is a requirement for environmental compliance.
A spokesperson from the MPCB has made it clear that MIDC needs to get their act together and fix these issues pronto. If they don’t, they could face some hefty penalties, including having their bank guarantee seized. So, let’s hope MIDC steps up to the plate and starts taking their environmental responsibilities seriously. The Mula River deserves better, don’t you think?
