Hey there, Pune folks! Have you heard about the recent fishy situation near Naik Island on the Mula-Mutha River? Thousands of dead fish were found last week, and it turns out the water quality is to blame. The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board and Pune Municipal Corporation are on the case, collecting water samples for testing.

Initial results show that severe pollution caused the fish deaths, leading the MPCB to demand immediate action from the PMC. Apparently, untreated sewage from the Naidu Sewage Treatment Plant is being dumped into the river, polluting the water and killing off aquatic life.

Reports say that around 90 million litres of untreated sewage is released into the Mula and Mutha rivers daily by the PMC. Yikes! This not only makes the water filthy but also harms the river’s ecosystem. The situation is so bad that dead fish were spotted during a joint inspection by MPCB and PMC officials.

To make matters worse, the Naidu Sewage Treatment Plant is in shambles, and its replacement is still under construction. This means that sewage continues to flow into the river unchecked, worsening the pollution levels.

Jaishankar Salunkhe from MPCB Pune has issued a stern warning to the PMC, urging them to clean up their act and fix the pollution problem. Let’s hope they take swift action to restore the health of the Mula-Mutha River before it’s too late!
