As the festive season approaches, Pune residents are gearing up for Diwali celebrations. However, with the excitement also comes concerns about air and noise pollution in the city. The use of firecrackers during Diwali tends to worsen these environmental issues, with the smoke from fireworks contributing to toxic air and the loud noises causing distress to many.

The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) has taken note of these concerns and will be monitoring air and noise pollution levels at various locations in Pune during Diwali. This monitoring will provide valuable data on the extent of pollution in the city and help in identifying potential mitigation measures.

Some of the locations where noise pollution will be monitored include Sakhar Sankul in Shivajinagar, Nal Stop on Karve Road, City Pride on Satara Road, Swargate, and more. By keeping a close eye on pollution levels, the MPCB aims to create awareness about the impact of Diwali celebrations on the environment and public health.

Kartikeya Langote, sub-regional officer of the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board, emphasized the importance of understanding the effects of Diwali festivities on pollution levels and taking steps to address them. With this monitoring initiative in place, Pune residents can look forward to a safer and healthier Diwali celebration this year.
