Hey there, Pune peeps! Big news coming your way – the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) is cleaning house by scrapping 72 old and non-functional Shivshahi and Shivneri buses in Pune. These buses have seen better days and are now ready to be auctioned off on 21st March through the Metal Scrap Trade Corporation (MSTC). It’s estimated that this auction could bring in a cool ₹2.5 to ₹3 crore in revenue. Cha-ching!

This decision comes hot on the heels of some security concerns at Swargate Bus Depot after a recent incident. State Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik has ordered that all defunct and non-operational buses in Maharashtra be scrapped by 15th April. In Pune, these 72 buses have been gathering dust for over a year, taking up space and becoming a target for mischief.

Not only have these buses been causing headaches at the MSRTC’s Pune divisional office, but they’ve also been getting in the way of progress. The depot has been trying to make room for newer, more eco-friendly Shivai buses, with 30 already joining the fleet. By getting rid of these old buses, MSRTC hopes to streamline operations, free up space, and improve public transport in Pune.

If you’re in the market for some bus parts or maybe even a whole bus (hey, you do you), you can bid on these vehicles through the official MSTC website. Whether you want the whole shebang or just some spare parts, the highest bidder will get the contract and the buses will be scrapped in no time.

This isn’t the first time MSRTC has cleared out the old to make way for the new. Last year, they scrapped 240 buses from 14 depots, raking in ₹8.5 crore. With this latest move, MSRTC is keeping things fresh and efficient, making sure Pune’s public transport system stays on the right track. Cheers to progress!
