Hey there, folks! Exciting news coming out of Pune today as the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) has big plans for the Ujani Dam Aqua Tourism Project. They’re set to splash out a whopping ₹73.25 crore on purchasing boats to amp up the water tourism scene in the area.
The project aims to not only attract tourists but also create job opportunities for the residents of 60 villages in Pune’s Indapur tehsil and Solapur’s Karmala tehsil. Sounds like a win-win to me!
According to Solapur District Collector Kumar Ashirwad, MTDC is on the hunt for various types of boats, from luxury yachts to bird safari boats. They even plan to introduce water sports activities by summer 2025, with local youths receiving training to ensure everything runs smoothly.
With the state government already sanctioning ₹190 crore for the project, it’s clear that they mean business. Ujani Dam, known as “India’s avian paradise,” is a hotspot for bird watchers, hosting over 240 bird species. The hope is that with improved infrastructure and specialized boats, Ujani will become a top destination for eco-tourism and water sports enthusiasts.
So keep an eye out for more updates on this exciting project that’s set to put Ujani on the map as a must-visit destination in Maharashtra!
