Lonavala was bustling with activity as Mumbaikars flocked to the popular tourist destination to celebrate the Christmas holidays. However, the influx of tourists led to a massive traffic jam in Khandala Ghat, causing chaos on the roads.

The Mumbai-Pune lane saw queues stretching up to 10-12 km, prompting Highway Police to take action to ease the congestion. Traffic from the Mumbai lane was diverted into the Pune lane at Khandala tunnel, but the queues continued to grow due to the sheer number of vehicles heading towards Lonavala and other tourist spots.

The holiday-goers were not just limited to Lonavala, as many were also making their way to Khandala, Kolhapur, Mahabaleshwar, Panchgani, and Konkan. With most of them traveling in private vehicles, the Expressway and old Pune-Mumbai Highway were clogged with traffic snarls.

From Amrutanjan Bridge to Anda Point and at the Khalapur toll booth, jams started building up early in the morning. The Khandala Highway Police and Borghat Highway Police worked tirelessly to manage the traffic and prevent further chaos.

As vehicles broke down and added to the congestion, the police urged tourists to plan their journeys in the coming days to avoid getting stuck in traffic jams. They emphasized the importance of following traffic rules and not contributing to the snarls by violating them.

Overall, the holiday rush to Lonavala and surrounding areas highlighted the need for better traffic management and planning during the festive season. Stay safe and enjoy your holidays responsibly!
