In a shocking turn of events, three men from Nashik have been apprehended by Pune Rural Police for their alleged involvement in the murder of a car driver during a robbery attempt. The suspects, who posed as passengers, reportedly killed the driver and made off with his vehicle.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Vishal Ananda Chavan (22), Mayur Vijay Solse (23), and Rituraj Vijay Sonawane (21), all hailing from Gangapur Road, Nashik. The victim, Rajesh Baburao Gaikwad (58), was discovered deceased with his hands and feet bound in the Santwadi area in Junnar Taluka on January 28, 2025. The court has ordered the accused to remain in police custody until February 7, 2025.

During the course of the investigation, surveillance footage captured the victim’s car passing through Malshej Ghat and Chalakwadi Toll Plaza en route to Nashik with two additional passengers. The stolen vehicle was later recovered in Kasara Ghat, leading authorities to suspect the involvement of known criminals from Nashik. The police then initiated a probe into local habitual offenders.

It is alleged that the accused strangled Gaikwad, disposed of his body in the Santwadi area, and absconded with the stolen car. Further inquiries revealed that Vishal Chavan and Mayur Solse had a prior murder case registered against them at Gangapur Police Station in Nashik.

The operation was overseen by Rural SP Pankaj Deshmukh and Additional SP Ramesh Chopade. The Local Crime Branch, along with teams from Alephata Police Station led by Police Inspectors Avinash Shilimkar and Dinesh Tayde, played a crucial role in the investigation and subsequent arrests.
