Hey Pune peeps, exciting news coming your way! A new enclosure for birds is in the works at the Pune Forest Division’s Wildlife Transit Treatment Centre on NDA Road. And guess what? City-based couple Sruthi and Sarvesh Javdekar have generously donated Rs.50 Lakhs to make this happen. Talk about giving back to nature!

According to Mahadev Mohite, Deputy Conservator of Forests (Territorial), Pune Division, this new enclosure will be a game-changer for the center. Neha Panchamiya, Founder and President of the RESQ Charitable Trust, highlighted the importance of the new enclosure, especially with the increasing number of injured birds due to urbanization and extreme climate events.

The new enclosure will have 32 units and can accommodate up to 150-200 birds, depending on the species. With the current capacity being only 100 birds, this expansion will allow the center to treat over 300 birds at a time. It’s a big win for our feathered friends!

Sarvesh Javdekar emphasized the declining bird species in India and the crucial role they play in maintaining ecological balance. That’s why the couple decided to support the construction of the new enclosure. With 2 avian nurseries and multiple flight testing areas, the birds will have everything they need to recover and return to their natural habitat.

The Javdekars, with Sarvesh in construction and Sruthi as an architect, expect the completion of the new enclosure within the next 6-8 months. So, keep an eye out for more bird buddies flying around Pune soon!
