Hey Pune peeps, here’s some news for you – the hot mix project at Yerwada is currently closed during the rainy season, slowing down the repair of pesky potholes on city roads. According to Superintendent Engineer Sahebrao Dandge, new hot mix projects are in the works at Shindewadi and Warje, approved by the Municipal Commissioner.

The current 120-tonne hot mix project at Yerwada churns out 450 tonnes of gravel mix asphalt daily, with 150 tonnes distributed to ward offices and the rest used for pothole repairs and road asphalting. But with the project closed, there’s a shortage of asphalt, making it harder to fix those road craters. And with the rain making things worse, more potholes keep popping up.

To tackle the issue, the PMC is planning to build two new hot mix projects at Shindewadi and Warje, each with a capacity of 160 tonnes. The estimated cost is around four and a half crore rupees for each project, which has already been approved. Once the tender process kicks off, these new plants will be up and running within three months. So hopefully, smoother roads are on the horizon for Pune!
