Good news for commuters traveling between Pune and Mumbai! The Public Works Department (PWD) has proposed a new Shirur-Khed-Karjat road to ease traffic congestion on the popular Pune-Mumbai route. This four-lane road will serve as an alternative corridor, providing a much-needed relief to travelers.
Currently, vehicles from Marathwada heading towards Mumbai are forced to use the congested Chakan and Shirur MIDC stretch, causing heavy traffic on Nagar Road. With the new route, freight vehicles will have an additional option to reach Mumbai, reducing congestion in Pune city.
The proposed route will span approximately 135 km, connecting Shirur, Pabal, Rajgurunagar, Shirvali, Pait, Vandre, and Karjat, eventually linking to Panvel and Uran. The project is estimated to cost around ₹12,000 crore, covering land acquisition and road construction.
Once sanctioned, this new corridor is expected to boost industrial and agricultural growth in the region, while also saving time for commuters and reducing the traffic burden on Pune city roads. The PWD plans to execute the project on a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) basis, with clearances already received from various departments.
Overall, the Shirur-Khed-Karjat road project promises to enhance connectivity, promote economic growth, and improve transport efficiency for travelers between Pune and Mumbai. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting development!
