You know that feeling when you’re stuck in traffic at Rakshak Chowk on the Sangvi-Kiwale road? Yeah, it’s not fun. But fear not, because the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has a plan to make your commute a whole lot smoother.

The city is getting a brand new subway, and it’s about time. This critical route connects PCMC to Pune and Mumbai, passing through key areas like Wakad, Hinjewadi, Punawale, Ravet, and Tathawade. With rapid urbanization in these areas, traffic congestion at Rakshak Chowk has become a major headache.

The increasing number of vehicles, including BRT buses, school buses, and goods transport, has only made matters worse. But with the new subway in place, vehicles travelling from Dange Chowk towards Pimple Nilakh and Aundh Military Station will have a signal-free corridor, reducing travel time, fuel consumption, and environmental damage.

PCMC Commissioner Shekhar Singh is all in on the project, emphasizing the long-term benefits for residents and daily commuters. “This subway is an important step in easing traffic congestion at Rakshak Chowk,” he said. “By reducing the time vehicles spend in traffic, we will also reduce fuel consumption and emissions, contributing to a greener environment.”

Here’s a quick overview of the project: located at Rakshak Chowk on Sangvi-Kiwale Road, the total project cost is Rs18.65 crore. The subway will be a spacious 26.40 meters wide, with ramps stretching 125 meters towards Aundh and 240 meters towards Jagtap Dairy. The project is expected to be completed in 18 months, with a tender amount of Rs22.77 crore.

So buckle up, folks. The subway is coming to Rakshak Chowk, and it’s going to make your daily commute a whole lot smoother.
