Hey there, folks in Baner! It looks like there’s some serious trouble brewing in the Mula River, and it’s got the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) and the National Green Tribunal (NGT) all riled up.

So, here’s the lowdown: the MPCB recently dropped a bombshell on the NGT, revealing that pollution levels in the Mula River at Pimple Nilakh and Baner are way above what’s considered safe. This revelation came after a bunch of fish decided to kick the bucket back in September 2024.

According to the MPCB’s report, both organic and inorganic pollutants in these river stretches are off the charts. The levels of biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) and chemical oxygen demand (COD) are through the roof, which is not good news for anyone who cares about clean water.

To make matters worse, the sewage treatment plants (STPs) in Pimple Nilakh and Baner are not doing a great job either. The BOD and COD levels are way higher than they should be, which means that the treated sewage water being released into the river is still pretty nasty.

The NGT has now put its foot down and asked the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to come up with a plan to clean up the mess in the Mula River. They want action, and they want it fast. The next hearing is set for April 9, so let’s hope PMC has some good ideas up their sleeves.

In the meantime, the MPCB is keeping a close eye on PMC and the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC). They’ve issued warnings and demanded that the civic bodies stop dumping untreated wastewater into the river.

With environmentalists and concerned citizens on high alert, it’s clear that something needs to be done before it’s too late. Let’s hope that the authorities in Baner and Pimple Nilakh step up and take action to save our precious water bodies. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story!
